What’s the longest book you’ve ever read?
When I was in junior high school, my teacher asked us to read a book that we might enjoy. We also had to choose one that was controversy so (I chose gone with the wind.)
You may ask and wonder why I chose a book that is controversial like this one. It was reading about the perspectives of white society and how they view the south at the time as well as those within the storyline and me being a black woman learning about more of our history through the lens of white people. I chose the book because we became popular on TV. I also chose the book because there were people who happen to look like me in the storyline. From the heartache to the trauma to the grief that the characters played. It was the largest book I ever read and wrote down my experience and what I learned from this book. From then on, I continue to read more history, cultures about my community and how it got me to thrive.
People say reading is fundamental and they’re absolutely right because it pushed me more into putting my eyes in a book and educating myself where no one taught me to.
